Lawyers need not be members of DC Bar. The program has a strong need for mediators with experience litigating personal injury, negligence and motor vehicle accident cases. Applicants with backgrounds in these areas will be given priority.

The 4-day training will be held on March 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd, 2012, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. Trainees must attend the training in its entirety; missing any portion of the training may be basis for dismissal.

Following training, mediators will complete a mentorship with an experienced civil mediator for at least three cases. Applicants accepted for this training must commit to mediating at least two mornings per month for one year following the completion of the training and mentorship. Mediation of these cases is scheduled each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:00 and 11:00 am.

Mediators are paid a stipend of $50 per case, after completing training and mentorship, and mediating three cases pro bono.

Applications must be received by January 13th.

Interviewing and selection will be conducted throughout the application period and the class may be filled before the close of the application period if sufficient numbers of qualified applicants are accepted before that date. Those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Applications (www.dccourts.gov/mediationtraining) may be submitted by email or postal mail. Email is the preferred method for submitting applications, however applicants may mail applications if necessary. Email applications should be sent to: MultiDoorTraining@dcsc.gov. Those sent by regular mail should be sent to: Karen Leichtnam, Training Manager, D.C. Superior Court, 515 5th St. NW, Washington, DC 20001.
